1. When was the LWVCV founded?

The National League of Women Voters was organized in 1920 and sent recognition with bylaws dated February 18, 1963 for the acceptance of the League of Women Voters of Catawba County.  The name and coverage was modified October 25, 2003 to League of Women Voters of Catawba Valley to include the four counties of Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba.

2. Does LWVCV stand with any political parties or support specific candidates in local or national elections?

No, LWVCV is a non-partisan grassroots organization which does not support nor oppose any political party or candidate. The LWVCV encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education. (See more in About Us)

3. I am very active in one of the local political parties. Can I still belong?

Yes, we have members who are active in local political parties. However, when you participate in any League activity you must park your party affiliation at the door and assume a non-partisan stance.

4. How many members are currently in the LWVCV?

The LWVCV has 52 members and that number continues to grow.  Our local league is one of 16 leagues in the state.  

5. Can men become members of the LWVCV?

Yes, the LWVCV opened its membership to men in 1973.  Men compose 23% of our current membership. We are fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion among our members in principle and in practice.

6. How much are the dues?

It is $60 for an Individual membership, $30 for a Household member (someone living at the  same address as the individual member), and free for a Student membership (age 16-26 and a full-time student at a high school or higher level) . 

7. How much of my dues are actually used locally? 

The LWVCV keeps 27% of your dues. The rest goes to support the state and national Leagues in their important work. 

8. Are my dues tax-deductible?

Dues are tax-deductible as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

11. How often and where does the LWVCV meet?

Business meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM.  These meetings are currently held virtually via Zoom. All meetings are open to members and potential members.  Details are posted in the Calendar

12. How can I help?

You can help by becoming a member and working with us at LWVCV activities such as voter registration drives or by donating here.

13. Can I volunteer or participate in the LWVCV activities without becoming a member? 

Yes, you can participate in any of the LWVCV activities but you need to be a member to volunteer at those events. 

14. Where Do Our Members Live?

Currently, 0ur members are from Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba Counties. We welcome members from any county in the area.
