Hands-on Redistricting Workshop

In today's United States, shifting shapes on maps can determine who gets elected to represent us at many levels of government—and most of those maps will be redrawn this fall. This once-a-decade process is called redistricting, and our May 26th workshop will both explain the process and give people a chance to try drawing their own district maps for Buncombe County. We would love for you to join us for this interactive virtual gathering—no special technical skills or prior mapping experience are needed! (Because of the hands-on activities, attendance will be capped at 30.)

This workshop will be led by Blake Esselstyn. Blake Esselstyn (he/him) loves maps, and especially loves studying—and trying to improve—maps that can have an impact on people's lives. After working with maps for the City of Asheville for more than 10 years, Blake founded Mapfigure Consulting, a company with a particular focus on fair redistricting. He has spoken about the topic at a slew of national and North Carolina-specific events
