Voting Rights: The Struggle Continues Hosted by the Council of Churches

Hosted by the Council of Churches:

Allison Riggs, Director, Programs; Chief Counsel for Voting Rights, Southern Coalition for Social Justice

Allison Riggs, an attorney who leads the Durham-based Southern Coalition for Social Justice, is a key player in the ongoing efforts to secure the right of every eligible North Carolinian to vote in free and fair elections. In this workshop, she presents an update on voting rights controversies ranging from gerrymandering to photo ID rules to procedures for mail-in ballots. She describes the dangers to democracy posed by ongoing attempts to make voting more onerous. She explains what voting rights advocates should look for as the General Assembly draws new congressional and legislative districts and considers which of 2020's pandemic-related election changes to extend, modify or drop.
